Marriage is a social institution, a contract between two people. That it began as part of a religious institution has no weight in the fact that today it is a social contract not a religious one in nature. Writing began also for the purposes of documenting religious texts, so does that means anyone who is not religious shouldn't write? Absurd. Also, have you ever proven the existence of your deity? Let’s not even start on that one.

Gays have all the right to marry if they want to. It should be none of your darn business, get a life. I am a straight woman and I do not care who someone else marry, is their business not mine. If you are that insecure to think that if gay marriage was allowed across all boards your spouse will leave you, then your spouse is a closet gay, better accept that.

The public policy benefits our society has created for marriage would go away with it.

I don't agree that the government is the cause of divorce and that is just ridiculous to say. But you're right about the gay marriage debate going away. They want the benefits our society confers on marriage but they cannot tell us how they benefit our society.
