Getting married for most people is one of the most joyful and exciting milestones in their lives. The wedding, however, is one of the most stressful and time-consuming activities and it normally requires an enormous amount of work. Nonetheless, wedding is only the beginning of a long-term relationship between a man and a woman that will require a lot of care and work in its own right in order to be a successful one. Most of us have some vague notions of what this relationship may entail, but nonetheless it is good to have some second opinion from people who have gone through it before, as well as to compare notes from very different marriages from our own. And in case that you don’t know many other married couples or just don’t know what sorts of information to seek out, then a book like this one is a great handy resource.
The book is written in an accessible, straightforward manner. It doesn’t waste much time on unnecessary background information, but goes straight to the main points it wants to make. The topics that it discusses are some of the most common one that married couples deal with in the first year or two of marriage – buying a house, getting used to living together, dealing with in-laws and two sets of friends and relatives, dealing with rings, weaving romance into the busy schedule, etc. The tips and suggestions are all very meaningful and insightful; I’ve learned a lot from reading this book and have come across information that I would have probably not come across otherwise.
One of my favorite aspects of this book are all the illustrations and charts. They are amusing and informative, and really serve to enhance the tips that are presented in the book. The book also contains several checklists that are very useful to have.
If you have just gotten married or are about to get married I would strongly recommend this book as a very fun and informative resource.

Having been married for just a blink over two and a half months, I decided to give this book a chance. What is life really like after the big day, after the last thank-you card is mailed out, after you decide “out with the old and in with the new” (as in his old college recliner to a two-toned sofa that fits more than one-plus-one on lap)? Filled with amusing graphics, tips and charts, and realistic applications, //The Newlywed’s Instruction Manual// offers an entertaining and eye-opening gander into life with your chosen. With such potentially sticky situations as arguments, trust and communication, money, and perhaps the ultimate adhesive of all, the in-laws, Caroline Tiger presents her readers with succinct and timeless suggestions to make your union more perfect or, at the very least, possible. Her instructions are user-friendly and lean toward a fun time with a colorful friend who knows a lot. It is also a guide on how to take care of home, finances, laundry (how many guys know to wash your delicate bra separate from the fuzzy bath towels?). It didn’t take long to say “I do” to this read.
