Sounding like a flashback of the first few years of MTV, the soundtrack of The Wedding Singer starts as an intended goof and ends up quite listenable, thanks. While a couple of these songs (Musical Youth’s “Pass the Dutchie” in particular) had already fallen off the cultural radar by 1985, when the movie’s action takes place, what’s most impressive is the staying power most of them hold. If anything, the Psychedelic Furs’ “Love My Way” sounds even better than it did then, and of course “How Soon Is Now,” and “Blue Monday” are classics that have transcended their era: Just ask Matt Pinfield. Question by 1 Corinthians 9:26b-27: What is the title of this wedding song, and where can I find the music?
The Wedding song had the hymn, My Jesus I love Thee incorporated with the famous Pachbel’s Canon in D. I saw the piano player with a book, so I know it’s a song book and not sheet music. I really would like to know the title of the song and the songbook. Thank you!

plenty available.

just because it’s in a song book does not mean it’s not generic sheet music with lyrics accompanying. you’re going to have to look harder or try to find the pianist perhaps.

Ani DiFranco steals the show with her ace rendition of Dusty Springfield’s “Wishin’ and Hopin’.” But DiFranco was playing the lyrics for smirks, which made it hard to wrap yourself up in the performance. Elsewhere, you get Mary-Chapin Carpenter covering “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” a version of “What the World Needs Now Is Love” by Jackie DeShannon; Diana King (of “Stir It Up” fame) doing a lite-reggae version of “I Say a Little Prayer,” and a Tony Bennett moment. Burt Bacharach’s songs are all over this CD, which is good. But aside from DiFranco and Bennett, many of the artists turned loose to sing them could’ve been better deployed.
