Question by Tim: What do gay men use instead of an engagement ring?
If a man wants to have a civil union with another man, what is their version of an engagement ring? Is there one? I was thinking something along the lines of a platinum band, which would be replaced by a gold band at the time of the civil union.

I know where I am buying the ring at but I thought if I could find an engagement ring/wedding band set design online that I like for my girlfriend I could ask about ordering a similar setting. The concept of having the wedding band being a part of her engagement ring is something I think she would really like. I know the person at the jewelery shop that does the stone setting and jewelry repair so that part shouldn’t be a problem.

How nice that you want to get engaged and show your love to your intended many stores have what you are looking for there is a place called the Diamond Exchange I think they have them in a few states that has interlocking rings but you won’t go into debt over them. Walmart, target and Kohl’s have Beautiful rings too and you can put them on layaway as well. E-bay might have what you are looking for as well and there are on line sites if you google interlocking engagement/wedding rings that will give you a variety of choices as well. Remember the ring is only a symbol of the love you share it is the mutuality of love and respect you have for another that will make a marriage strong and durable even through the tough times best wishes to you e4g

The engagement ring is your promise to wed, the wedding ring is the Promise for what ever the 2 of you come up with. Traditionally til death do us part, change it if that is not the intentions the 2 of you have.

There is a big difference in price depending on the cut, clarity, etc. of the diamond.

Personally I think it is crazy to spend so much on a ring, I would rather put the money into a house.
