Question by BeachBum: Should I really buy lingerie for a gift for a lingerie theme bridal shower?
Why would anyone buy lingerie for someone they hardly know or have any idea what their taste is? Wouldn’t a high thread count sheet set be better anyway? HELP!!

I find it strange that you’re invited to a shower for someone you hardly know!
Even though it’s a lingerie shower, if you show up with high thread count sheets, the shower police are not going to show up and arrest you. Get what you want, nobody should dictate what gifts are given for showers and/or weddings.

i do not think i would buy lingerie for anyone but myself. i really am not good at guessing sizes or someone’s comfort level in the bedroom. i would probably go the candle, lotion, romantic cd to set the mood route, so i would be in the safe and not cause problems.
maybe i would put it in a racy bag to make it more fun though.
ok ummm thats a little weird if its a lingerie shower and thats what they want yes, otherwise you are gonna look like an ass bringing sheets!
If that’s the theme that’s what you should get.
If you feel uncomfortable a nice scape gift is to go buy the biggest pair of ugly granny panties you can find. Include a gift card someplace that carries lingere like VS or Fredricks and they can pick out their own. Include a cute note like “for when you have a headache” and you will both be happy.
If you really want to get sheets I suppose you can, it will just be a little out of place and the hostess might get slightly miffed you ruined her theme.
if that is the theme…yes you could buy anything that could be used in the bedroom..there are some games, candles, sheets too would be a unique take …i wouldnt be offeneded if i got some really high thread count sheets those suckers are super soft and im too cheap to buy them for myself
About four years ago, I and others hosted a lingerie bridal shower with the theme being a surprise to the bride. It went over really well.
Not everyone bought lingerie. One guest bought a little kids tea set. She and the bride had played tea party when she was young. Another guest bought bath and shower stuff.
I see no reason for you not to get the sheets. I would love to get them as a gift. You do what feels ok to you.

Get body lotions or perfume if you feel uncomfortable buying lingerie!
It is odd that you were invited to a lingerie shower for someone you barely know…maybe the bride is desperate for people to show! In this situation, I think the best thing to do is get his&her robes. Or even just a robe for her with her new monogram. It’s still for the “bedroom” but not as shocking as buying lingerie. I’ve seen this done MANY times…and wouldn’t mind getting some myself.
you could give sheets. I think they would go nicely with the theme. If you are uncomfortable give her a gift certificate to Victoria’s Secret. If you are really uncomfortable and you don’t know the person all that well just decline the invitation.
