When I read this book I was especially impressed with the simple, straight-forward approach the author took to communicate the fundamentals of healthy relationship skills. The nice short sections and example behaviors spelled out are custom-made for men who may have difficulty staying up to speed in this area. BTW The other books in this series are pretty good also.

WOW! This book is a must read for every couple!! The “rules” he applies are truely so simple yet most often forgotten. The book is very small and easy to read. He gives great examples and if applied to any relationship I don’t believe a divorce could happen. If both parties read and apply these rules I am sure you will find things you both could improve with and simply move toward a great marriage as the book title states. I have shared this book with friends that aren’t married and they too find things that can help any serious commited relationships. I have bought several copies to give with wedding gifts as I believe every marriage will need these reminders at some point! I was so impressed with this book I actually bought his other books in hopes they will also be nice little pointers for life. I haven’t read those yet but I can tell you on this one …. you can’t go wrong with 20 rules and tools for a great marriage!

Whether your married, engaged, dating, or even divorced and trying to reclaim your life, this “little blue book” will shed a light in your life that NO OTHER “relationship book” will do.
I stumbled across this quick read in 2003 at my local HEB which carries a collection of Christian book titles by the magazine stands. I felt I was in another short-lived relationship and was simply seeking an understanding of what could be going wrong again.
As I read the first chapter, or “rule” as the book calls it, I knew I had found an incredible reference book. This book is NOT one that labels us as solar system icons; instead Christian author and family counselor Steve Stephens, pulls 20 basic rules together along with a short synopisis he’s encountered in his years of counseling, a very applicable bible verse, a prayer effective for that day’s rule, and then 3 or 4 very effective “tools” or suggestions for you to apply to your relationship to help you reinstate that rule.
I have shared this book COUNTLESS times with friends over the last 6 years, because 1) it is purely the truth and 2) everyone could use this guide no matter where you are in your life concerning relationships. Though it is a quick read, I treated it as a devotional, and allowed each chapter to soak in daily. I assure you that you will not want to skip a day of reading if you are reading through it that way! And yes, as you read, you will discover that as simple as these suggestions we ALL forget to apply these rules, which are simple truths about how we should treat one another. The tools suggested in each chapter are incredibly easy to do, and although your significant other may have a different mind-set, you can certainly begin to apply this rules to your relationship and be prepared for change and renewal in your own life!
I strongly encourage you and assure you this will be the BEST $10 you have ever spent. HEB no longer carries these books, however, I have purchased probably 40 of them through the years, most of them here at Amazon, and most of them ordered 3 or 5 at a time, as I now give them as gifts to friends either getting married, thinking about it, or simply just “seeking wisdom”. I have given them to friends who are celebrating countless years together because this book WILL enhance and/or confirm the actions they’ve taken to stick through the thick and then. Several friends have come back to tell me this book saved their marriage, so yes, I consider a cornerstone guide for everyone. You will find it equally as valuable!
Try it! You will not leave it to collect dust on your shelf!!!
